Introduction by Hugh M. Cannon, Dad
Wowee zowee! The Cannon Chronicle has returned with a vengeance. Emphasis on the "Chronicle" part, seeing as how time has truly passed. Can you imagine. All those little troops now range from 28 to 12 years old. And Dear Old Dad and Mom ... well, never mind!
Anyhow, this is Ben's brainchild. He thought we should call it Cannon Fodder, but we figured that it might be seen slanderous to "Dear Old Dad." Cannon Mudder is no better. Bonnie's OK with it, but we thought it might reflect on our writing style. What d'you think? Maybe we can have a contest!
Well, 'nuf of this nonsense. The web site can go unnamed for now. The content is really what counts. So, here goes!
Family Update by Michelle Cannon
As for our little family, we are in survival mode. Jim is as busy as can be doing well at school and work and keeping up with us at home. He did an outstanding job this past year at work and got a good promotion and raise from his efforts. He has also done very well is school. He is in school Monday - Thursday after work. We are really missing him at home. The other day Mikaela said to me, "Mommy, I want to go to daddy's house and play." I think she thinks he is living somewhere else now and needs to go there to see him. Luckily this schedule will only last through August.
As for me I am busy being mom. The weather has been beautiful so we have spent a lot of time outside, which helps. I have a couple friends in similar situations and we spend a lot of our days together. I am going home to visit my family in July for a couple weeks. I'm looking forward to spending some time with them and sharing our children.
Mikaela and Andrew are the best of friends and sometimes the worst. They play pretty well together but they also find ways to tease each other often. Mikaela just finished potty training. She was quite easy to train- taking about 3 weeks. She is pretty proud of herself to be out of diapers. Andrew is a happy little boy. He is talking really well. His favorite sentences are "I unt smore gink" or "I unt gink a water." He drinks so much and seems to love being able to vocalize his desires. That's about it for us. We miss you all and hope you have a wonderful summer.
It seems there are so many "forwards" going around that it is sometimes hard to find something of substance and worth amidst all the fluffy stuff. Here is one I received not long ago that brought me to ponder how I balance many of the aspects of this life. There are some pretty broad generalizations, but it did get me thinking. It goes like this:
The Paradox
The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings, but shorter tempers; wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints; we spend more, but have less; we buy more, but enjoy it less.
We have bigger houses and smaller families; more conveniences, but less time; we have more degrees, but less sense; more knowledge, but less judgement; more experts, but more problems; more medicine, but less wellness.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often. We learned how to make a living, but not a life; we've added years to life, not life to years.
We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbor.
We've conquered outer space, but not inner space; we've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul; we've split the atom, but not our prejudice; we have higher incomes, but lower morals; we've become long on quantity, but short on
quality. These are the times of tall men, and short character; steep profits, and shallow relationships. These are the times of world peace, but domestic warfare; more leisure, but less fun; more kinds of food, but less nutrition.
These are the days of two incomes, but more divorce; of fancier houses, but broken homes.
It is a time when there is much in the show window and nothing in the stockroom; a time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to make a difference or just hit delete.

Let's strive to live the principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ so that we can have peace and balance in our personal lives and bring happiness to others.
The purpose of this new family web page is to give Hugh and Bonnie Cannon and descendants a special opportunity to share amongst themselves and with others. It looks like we will have a new edition monthly on or near the first day of the month. We may also have occasional mid-month updates when called for.
Submissions for next month should be emailed to Michelle Cannon at [email protected]. Submissions ideas might include poems, short stories and other creative writing, photos, art, school papers/projects, editorials, news updates, musical performances (such as 'Sudia'), religious topics and so forth. We might also include features like topical discussions and family spotlights (maybe even for deceased family members/ancestors).
