Ben and Annette Cannon's News
7/3/99 Annette gave birth to a 7 lb. 4 oz. baby girl at 1:45 a.m. Her name is Rachel Allegra Cannon. Rachel was 20.75 inches at birth with lots of dark hair. She loves to eat, sleep and more than occasionally cry--like most kids her age. Photos:

Hugh Cannon's Travel Plans and Update
6/30/99 Hi! I'm comfortably ensconsed in a beautiful -- even luxurious, by Ukrainian standards -- apartment in Lviv. Tonight I leave by overnight bus for Krakov, Poland, then back here on Saturday.
The trip is going well. Ben and Sarah will appreciate this most of all. Last night we had dinner at Pizza Pronto with Anatoly Malonos. Great visit, great nostalgia! He has a very good job working for an English research/promotion company. He is also in law school and is branch president, so his life is full.
Alas, I have not yet figured out how to access my AOL account, so I can't read my mail. I'm hoping to resolve the problem before I leave here today. If I am not successful ... well, at least I can send mail! Hope all is well with you!
love,
D.o.D.
6/28/99 On the road again! Here are the latest on Dear Old Dad's summer travel plans. On Friday, June 25th he's off to Ukraine and Poland. This is part of a U. S. Department of Education grant to develop case studies involving Eastern European companies. From there, he's off to Turkey to complete a consulting assignment with a Turkish Electronics company. Then, home and off to yet another foreign country -- Utah -- where Sarah and Jenne will graduate, Katie Cannon and Becky Isom will get married (not to each other), and ... well, who knows. Life is exciting.

[note Hugh's travel updates above]
7/1/99 No news on the update of the Cannon home in Farmington Hills in this newsletter. I [Michelle] was just there yesterday so I'll add my own. The carpet is ripped out of most of the house. The painting is looking so good. It looks like carpet samples and tile samples are the talk of the home. That is so exciting.
Jim and Michelle Cannon's News
7/1/99 As for our family we are back into school again and realizing the summer is flying by way to quickly. We talked about the fact that this summer was going to be one of those summers you just sort of survived as it passed.
For Jim's 3 day school break he took Friday off and we went camping for 3 days. We left Thursday night and stayed at a local campground on a lake. For the 3 days we canoed, swam, played in the sand and had a wonderful time. It was rejuvinating!! Jim got an Excellent and a Good in his classes last term. The ratings go Excellent then Good then Pass. He has consistently gotten Excellents and Goods together. I'm proud of him!!! He is balancing it all so well I just worry about him crashing. He is in a Law class and a Writing class this semester. He gets to come home for a 1/2 hour on Tuesdays and Thursdays for dinner. That has been so fun having him eat with us and see the kids during the week. We went to the Zoo yesterday with the family. The kids obviously loved every minute of it. They have talked about it since we got home.
Last night I journeyed, with some friends, to Downtown to watch the fireworks on the River front. It took us 1 1/2 hours to get there and the same to get home. What an incredible show. The kids loved it. Andrew fell asleep right before the finale???? It was quite the experience. We were hoping to meet up with Jim but had no idea that that was nearly impossible.
6/1/99 As for our little family, we are in survival mode. Jim is as busy as can be doing well at school and work and keeping up with us at home. He did an outstanding job this past year at work and got a good promotion and raise from his efforts. He has also done very well is school. He is in school Monday - Thursday after work. We are really missing him at home. The other day Mikaela said to me, "Mommy, I want to go to daddy's house and play." I think she thinks he is living somewhere else now and needs to go there to see him. Luckily this schedule will only last through August.
As for me I am busy being mom. The weather has been beautiful so we have spent a lot of time outside, which helps. I have a couple friends in similar situations and we spend a lot of our days together. I am going home to visit my family in July for a couple weeks. I'm looking forward to spending some time with them and sharing our children.
Mikaela and Andrew are the best of friends and sometimes the worst. They play pretty well together but they also find ways to tease each other often. Mikaela just finished potty training. She was quite easy to train- taking about 3 weeks. She is pretty proud of herself to be out of diapers. Andrew is a happy little boy. He is talking really well. His favorite sentences are "I unt smore gink" or "I unt gink a water." He drinks so much and seems to love being able to vocalize his desires. That's about it for us. We miss you all and hope you have a wonderful summer.
I'm headed out to Utah with the kids July 12th and staying until Aug 3rd.

Here is a great email I received. So true!!!
One day a father and his rich family took his son to a trip to the country with the firm purpose to show him how poor people can be. They spent a day and a night in the farm of a very poor family. When they got back from their trip the father asked his son, "How was the trip?"
"Very good Dad!"
"Did you see how poor people can be?" the father asked.
"Yeah!"
"And what did you learn?"
The son answered, "I saw that we have a dog at home, and they have four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of the garden, they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lamps in the garden, they have the stars. Our patio reaches to the front yard, they have a whole horizon."
When the little boy was finishing, his father was speechless. His son added, "Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are!"
Isn't it true that it all depends on the way you look at things? If you have love, friends, family, health, good humor and a positive attitude towards life -- you've got everything! You can't buy any of these things, but still you can have all the material possessions you can imagine, provisions for the future, etc., but if you are poor of spirit, you have nothing!
The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart.

Thank you to Michelle Cannon who put together the subscriptions and updates for this edition. I'd like to note that she was on time and I [Ben] am the one who was delayed in the posting of page (I also had a last-minute submission).
The purpose of this new family web page is to give Hugh and Bonnie Cannon and descendants a special opportunity to share amongst themselves and with others. It looks like we will have a new edition monthly on or near the first day of the month. We may also have occasional mid-month updates when called for.
Submissions for August should be emailed to Ben Cannon at [email protected]. Submissions ideas might include poems, short stories and other creative writing, photos, art, school papers/projects, editorials, news updates, musical performances (such as 'Sudia'), religious topics and so forth. We might also include features like topical discussions and family spotlights (maybe even for deceased family members/ancestors).
